The Early Learning and Child Care Program has an exciting permanent full-time opportunity for an Early Learning and Child Care Consultant in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Program Manager for the Northern region this position is responsible for:

  • Developing, licensing, and monitoring child care services;
  • Supporting parents and caregivers;
  • Assisting community groups and individuals to meet their child care needs;
  • Actively working towards the recruitment and retention of new licensed family child care providers in the area;
  • Ensure information about early childhood care and education is available to the public; and
  •  Enforcing The Child Care Act and The Child Care Regulations, 2015.

To be successful in this position you will be a strong verbal and written communicator who is able to:

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with a diverse group of people;
  • Effectively mediate and negotiate solutions with various stakeholder groups in a diplomatic manner;
  • Identify needs and issues and determine an appropriate course of action to address concerns;
  • Independently plan and prioritize responsibilities in order to achieve work objectives;  
  • Prepare and deliver presentations related to child care;

Typically, the knowledge and experience required in this position would be acquired through:

  • Experience as the Director of a child care centre and related early childhood education;  
  • An equivalent amount of related education and experience will also be considered.

A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license is required as overnight travel to different northern communities is required.

  • Prepare and implement creative and age appropriate curriculum for theme oriented circle time/art time activities on a rotational basis
  • Assist in supervising all activities to ensure the safety of children at all times.
  • Perform basic skills of child care as outlined by the Director (i.e. feeding, diapering, bathing, dressing, toileting).
  • Respond with good judgment and act quickly in the case of medical emergency or crisis situation (i.e. fire, evacuation, etc.)

  • Ability to relate to infants and children
  • Ability to maintain plans, records, and evaluations of children.
  • Ability to work with Director, staff, parents, and Board of Directors in a co-operative manner
