Hello lovely members and Happy Friday!
It is easy to get lost in the hussle and bussle of every day work. If your office or work environment is anything like SECA’s a common phrase you would hear is “How is it already ____(enter date)?!” I know I have said it several times each month since August. Here is a glimpse of what we have been up to over the past few months:
We have had a very busy few months of processing membership, centre insurance, and workshop registration payments (upwards of 400!) since September. We try to be as prepared and efficient as possible for each renewal phase however, processing times and issuing receipts does take a fair amount of time. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time!
SECA was very excited to roll out a new initiative to offer full time ECE students enrolled in certificate or diploma program with institutions such as SaskPolyTech a free SECA membership and access to our perks and benefits. We have a total of 134 student SECA memberships.
We have signed a new contract with the Ministry of Education – Early Years Branch to coordinate the Directors Basic Administration and Play & Exploration – Phase II workshops. We will update the membership with dates for these workshops in the coming month. Workshops will be offered after the new year.  Play & Exploration Phase I and Play & Exploration Infant & Toddler workshops are offered online. For more information on the online workshops please contact the Ministry of Education.
We hope our membership viewed the Early Childhood Educator video which we circulated in September. We will be releasing a pamphlet outlining the profession and another video as well! In efforts to increase recruitment we would like to attend career fairs throughout the province. If you would like to represent SECA and the Early Childhood Education sector please contact the office!
The SECA board of directors and staff will be meeting with Ministry of Education – Early Years Branch on November 24th during our monthly board meeting. We are hopeful to potentially hear about the bilateral agreement. I look forward to updating the membership following the meeting.
November 24th and 25th will be a busy few days for SECA. In addition to the meeting with the Ministry of Education -Early Years branch we are hosting our annual SECA Awards of Excellence Gala and  November workshop featuring Dr Jean Clinton. I am privileged to be a part of a profession that takes the time to recognize and nominate each other for their excellence. The nomination forms and supporting documents are truly inspirational. Saskatchewan is lucky to have such strong Early Childhood Educators, centres and home providers. We will be extending the registration deadline for the gala and workshop to November 17th. Please contact the office if you are interested in attending.
Last but not least, I was lucky enough to attend the Canadian Child Care Federation Affiliate meeting in Ottawa, sponsored by the Lawson Foundation from November 4th-6th. The meeting was attended by Don Gesibrecht, CEO of the CCCF, the board and staff of the CCCF, the Alberta Leadership Caucus, a representative of the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society, the Muttart Foundation and representatives from provincial associations throughout Canada. During the meeting we discussed the Multilateral and Bilateral agreements. Representatives from Ontario, New Brunswick and PEI provided updates on their signed bilateral agreements. The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development attended a portion of the meeting on the final day. Minister Duclos provided a federal update and opened the floor to questions from the attendees of the meeting. I look forward to providing a report of the meeting in the coming weeks.
I hope everyone has a fantastic and safe long weekend!
